MIDDLEBURY-SOUTHBURY — Pomperaug senior, Kate Wiser, won her fourth consecutive South-West Conference cross country title last week at the league championships at Bethel High School. The Notre Dame-bound senior broke her own course record with a time of 17:16.78 in finishing first in the girls’ race. Her time was so fast that she would have finished in third place in the boys’ race.

New Milford won the team competition with a total of 60 points, followed by New Fairfield with 68 points.

Pomperaug finished in fourth place with 91 points. Newtown was in sixth place with 101 points.

The teams ran in their own North or South divisions and the times were merged to determine an overall league winner.

After Wiser’s outstanding run to first place, her Pomperaug teammates performances were: 13th, Gillian Hotaling, 22:13.86; 14th, Victoria Westlein, 22:14.34; 23rd, Sophia Oliva, 22:59.99; 41st, Lexi Kullia, 23:59.57; 44th, Ayden Van Deusen, 24:44.32, and 55th, Emily McRae, 26:33.91.

With no state championships this season, this marks the end of the fall season for these runners.

The Pomperaug boys’ team placed all of their runners in the top 50 finishers for a good showing on the afternoon. The Panthers top runner was Joey Bevilacqua in eighth place with a time of 18:07.90.
