PHS Girls’ and Boys’ Cross Country Beats Notre Dame and Immaculate

MIDDLEBURY-SOUTHBURY — The Pomperaug girls’ cross country team got the South-West cross country season off to a great start last week, defeating both Immaculate and Notre Dame 15-50. The Panthers had all seven of their runners finish ahead of the runners from both the other teams.

The top runner for the day was Pomperaug’s Sofia Oliva with a time of 20:19. She was followed by her teammates: second, Lexis Kulas, 22:59; third, Emily Bevilacqua, 23:12; fourth, Emily Hoedl, 23:44; fifth, Kitan Arole, 24:35; sixth, Sookie Granderi, 25:10; seventh, Abby Amaucks 25:23.

The Pomperaug boys’ cross country team also won last week, besting Immaculate 14-48 and Notre Dame, 15-44.

Pomperaug placed all seven of its runners in the top 10 places, with Liam Quinn winning the race in a time of 19:20. In fact, the top four runners were all so close, any of them could of won. 

The second, third and fourth place runners, all finished with times of 19:21: Ethan Hudson, Eoin Collette and Benjamin Kania.

The fifth-place finisher was Jonah Turner with a time of 19:32. Joey Kovach was sixth in 19:34 and Thomas Roberts as 10th in 20:16.
