MIDDLEBURY-SOUTHBURY — Tony Pereira returns for his second season as the head coach of the Pomperaug football team. He had a successful first year as the Panthers were 6-4.
Filling out the coaching staff are John Pereira, Bert Hughes, John Kleckner, Rob Mazuroski and Andrew Reel.
Leaders and captains are senior Jake Oldham, a strong running back; Sai Quesenberry, a senior lineman; All-SWC golfer and a senior tight end and linebacker, Mike DeRienzo; and senior running back J.C. O’Leary.
Other veterans include two-way lineman Henry Mescavage, a senior, and junior running back Owen Henry.
Max Fitch is a senior lineman, while Tomas Reyes is a senior running back.
Connor Brown is a junior quarterback and Jay-Li Poon is a senior who can be used at quarterback and as a defensive back.
Anthony Kosheluk and Alec Kosheluk are sophomores who both can serve as running backs and linebackers.
“We have depth at the skill positions and have players who understand the importance of work ethic and mental toughness,” said Coach Pereira.
“This is a hard-working group, committed to continuing the rebuild of this program.
“We have a great amount of respect for our opponents...and the league looks very competitive and balanced as always.”
