SOUTHBURY — The basketball season ended sooner than most area boys’ basketball players wanted, but there were still some very impressive numbers collected by individual athletes.

Great high school players often try to reach 1,000 points in their careers. Player Hunter Smith of Gilbert got more than half that total in this one shortened season.

Smith led the Berkshire League in scoring with 527 points, including 54 in one game. His average point total per game was 26.4.

Owen Hibbard, the junior standout from Shepaug, notched 454 points, including individual games of 37, 33 and 32, as he put up a 22.7 average.

Jon Khazzaka from Nonnewaug had 410 points and a 20.5 average, and four times (35, 34, 32, 30), he reached the 30 points in a single game plateau.

Other top scorers in the B.L. included league champion Wamogo’s Ethan Collins at 18.6, Chad Suckley from Thomaston with a 17.8 average, Jayden Cornwall, a senior guard at Shepaug, with a 16.5 average, and Michael Perachi of Shepaug and Levi Delaney from Northwestern, both scoring at a 14.5 rate.
