OXFORD — The Oxford volleyball team qualified last week for the Naugatuck Valley League play-offs by beating Ansonia in the last match of the season 3-1.
Earlier last week, the Wolverines lost to fourth-ranked Kennedy 3-0. The Wolverines finished the regular season 11-9 and will play in the Class S state tournament beginning on November 11.
Oxford, ranked eighth in the NVL tournament quarter-finals, faced first-ranked Seymour and lost 3-0 with scores of 25-12, 25-14, 25-16.
In the match against Kennedy, the scores were 25-13, 25-20, 25-23. Ellie Nichols led the defense with 13 digs. Niah Mesidor led the offense with seven kills and two blocks.
In the victory over Ansonia, Oxford dropped the first set 21-25, then came back to sweep 25-22, 25-17, 25-23. Liv Lombardi led the team with eight kills, nine assists and seven digs. Ellie Nichols was a standout on defense with 20 digs, while Kristy Capodagli chipped in with 11 digs. Mesidor added seven kills.
