OXFORD — Torrington came back from an early deficit to defeat the Oxford boys’ basketball team, 53-51, in an NVL game in Torrington last Friday.
The visiting Wolverines jumped out to an early 16-8 lead and went into the locker room still in front, 30-23.
Torrington closed the gap to 40-37 in the third period and came through in the final seconds to gain their third win of the season.
Thaddaeus Kimberly made a pair of foul shots with 11 seconds left in the game, giving his team the lead, then forced a turnover when Oxford had their next possession.
Kimberly had 17 points to lead all scorers and Jordan Harvey chipped in with 13.
Oxford got many of their points by making a bunch of three-pointers and also had 10 at the foul line.
Jon Broas scored 16 for the 2-4 losers, while David Zareski put in 13 and Will Broas notched six.
Zareski, with 29 free throws, has more than half of the Oxford team’s total of 60.
