BETHLEHEM-WOODBURY — The Nonnewaug swimming and diving team got in its first meet on the new year on Tuesday, January 4, with a non-league match-up against Watertown in Watertown.

The Chiefs scored a solid victory over the Indians, 84-70, to begin 2022 on a bright note.

Nonnewaug picked up six first places, then used solid performances by the whole team to grab valuable second, third and fourth places to rack up points.

The team was led by a pair of experienced seniors, Collin Bootsma and Aidan Barry. Both swimmers picked up two individual first-place victories, plus swam on the winning 200 free relay team. Bootsma won the 50 free and the 100 fly races, while Barry won the 200 free and the 500 free distance races.

Another senior, Amelia Pillis captured the 200 individual medley event.
