BETHLEHEM-WOODBURY — Using a balanced scoring attack and playing good defense allowed the Nonnewaug girls’ basketball team to win three games last week, as the Chiefs improved to 7-1 for the season.
The Chiefs defeated Litchfield by a score of 63-15 in a home game.
The Cowgirls were kept from any scoring in the first quarter and were down 40-8 by half-time.
The Chiefs had 10 players in the scoring column, led by Skyla Starziski with 16 and Sofia Pagnamenta with 14.
Also scoring at least one hoop for the winners were Maddie Roden, Erin Classey, Anna Culkin, Ella Lupo, Fiona Gengenbach, Mallory Tomkalski, Juliette Nichols and Allysa Calabrese.
A 26-8 outburst in the third quarter broke open a close game with Capital Prep and allowed Nonnewaug to march to a 63-34 victory.
Classey and Roden had 11 and 10 points to lead the Chiefs, while Culkin had nine and Starziski and Lupo each added eight.
Capital Prep got most of its points from Sanela Walford who led all scorers with 21.
Completing their week with a 44-27 win over Shepaug in Washington, the Chiefs were led by Tomkalski with 12 points.
Lupo and Roden each added eight.
Shepaug was led by its star guard, Marissa Perachi, who scored 12 points and was in double figures for the fifth time in six games.
