BETHLEHEM-WOODBURY — A great season came to a close last week for the Nonnewaug girls’ soccer team.

It was a mixture of satisfaction, knowing they got to play six weeks of soccer, and a mood of sadness that the team didn’t get to finish out the end.

The Chiefs beat Wamogo, 9-0, and Wolcott Tech, 7-0, before their season was stopped. Their final game against Shepaug last Friday was canceled and the Region 14 district decided to suspend any further sports or after-school activities due to rising Covid-19 numbers. That meant that the 8-2-2 Chiefs will not be participating in the Berkshire League post season tournament this week.

In the Wamogo game, nine different players scored. Leading the way was Paige Brandt with a goal and two assists. Grace Koukopoulos and Skyla Starziski each had a goal and one assist.

Also scoring were Samantha Conti, Alexa Burke, Gianna Lodice, Sam Duncan, Charlotte D’Alexander and Ella Lupo. Skylar Chung chipped in with one assist.

The goalkeeping duties were split between Sophia Pagnamenta, three saves, and D’Alexander, two saves.

No information was reported on the Wolcott Tech game.
