MIDDLEBURY-SOUTHBURY — In a three-team meet held on Pomperaug’s home course, the Pomperaug girls’ cross country team picked up easy victories over Bunnell (19-40) and Masuk (16-43). The victories raised the Panthers’ record to 8-2. The top three runners were from Pomperaug and gave the Panthers a huge lead. Sophia Oliva was the first runner across the finish line with a time of 22:23. Alexa Kulis was right behind her in second place with a time of 23:08 and Gabrielle Caroll was right on her heels in third with a time of 23:13.
Emily Bevilacqua took fifth place with a time of 23:39; Avery Kugle placed ninth in 25:07 and Sooki Grandieri finished 10th with a time of 25:26.
The Pomperaug boys’ cross country team had a dominating performance last week against Bunnell and Masuk. The Panthers had nine runners finish the race before Masuk finally broke the string of Pomperaug runners.
Pomperaug beat both Bunnell and Masuk by scores of 15-50.
The top runner was Owen Martin with a time of 18:41. He was followed by Hunter Curcuruto with a time of 18:51, while Mike Connolly was third in a time of 19:19.
Jonah Turner was fourth in 19:37 and in a virtual tie with him were Ethan Hudson in fifth and Eoin Collette in sixth; both had times of 19:38.
Ben Koobatian was seventh in 19:52, followed by Joey Catuccio in eighth in 20:28 and Mike Tutoli in ninth in 20:38.
