To the Editor:

The status quo has to go. It’s 2021; it’s time for action.

Several weeks ago, I wrote the editor of this paper a letter about First Selectman Manville’s 15-month delay in hiring an economic development professional. Why it took so long is irrelevant. Actions speak.

To say the least, that’s not a good omen for leadership in Southbury – for the citizens of Southbury – now in the third decade of the 21st century. We need a leader who is in action, makes decisions and has a team that knows how to implement them.

The more I learn about John Diehl, the Democratic candidate for first selectman, the more excited I get.

In addition, the Democrats are offering Southbury a full slate of 22 strong candidates, who together will bring new leadership to Southbury. Fresh perspectives; diverse voices. And, long needed professionalism, which has been absent in the current administration.

Southbury doesn’t need a caretaker. Southbury deserves a first selectman who is a true champion for Southbury, a leader who will serve all our neighbors including our hard-working employees. A champion who has the vision and management experience to boldly lead our town into the complex future.

John Diehl will bring professional (worth saying twice), caring, responsible leadership to the office of first selectman.

Again, it’s 2021; it’s time for action.
