Editor’s Note: Griffin John Namin, 21, of Southbury died June 26 after a 17-month battle with brain cancer. He left the following letter to the people of Southbury and Middlebury.

To the Editor:

An open letter to the families of Southbury and Middlebury, Connecticut:

This is a magical place, and if your child lives right, he or she will be able to experience all the magic it has to offer.

Some kids don’t necessarily get to experience high school with joy and the same amount of happiness that I had.

Let your kids be kids.

Let them indulge in recklessness, courage and community.

These towns, that high school and my friends gave me everything.

I love you all.

Thank you.
