To the Editor:

Thank you to Sandy Saren for 28 years of service to the town of Southbury as the director of Social Services.

Sandy worked tirelessly to ensure Southbury residents’ needs were met during their most difficult times. She did this with compassion, a smile and a laugh you could hear down the hall.

As members of the Southbury Needy Fund, we worked with Sandy to help provide resources for families. We saw first hand her dedication and professionalism as she worked with us each year to bring the Southbury Needy Fund Christmas program to fruition.

She loves the town of Southbury and felt keenly the need to care for residents who required fuel assistance, rental assistance or help after a fire. She found ways to help residents to stay in Southbury and live a better life.

We will miss her help, particularly during the Christmas season when the extra work she did allowed us to accomplish ours, so that all of Southbury’s families could be provided for. Her help was as important an ingredient in creating that result as was the generosity of our town.

We wish Sandy a long, healthy retirement that includes time to enjoy her family.
