To the Editor:

The beautiful eulogies of Memorial Day and the touching tributes to the 75th anniversary of D-Day have passed. Now we must consider that all wars are the worst and cruelest, including Korea, Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan.

Each generation has its own “Greatest Generation,” the lonely fear and sadness of innocent youth facing imminent death. Some were just teenagers, a life ended the moment it was about to begin.

Many never returned. Only the memories remain, while others suffered massive physical and psychological injuries.

Our lives, our children’s lives and our freedom as Americans are the gift of their love. Thank you.
