Ruth Hecht

SOUTHBURY — Ruth Hecht, 92, resident of the Watermark in Southbury, died Saturday July 6, 2019, at Danbury Hospital.

Born in 1926, the daughter of Otto and Luise Schaible, in Esslingen Germany, Ruth was a German citizen and later a permanent resident of the United States. She was educated in Esslingen and started her career at Roth and Muller, machine builders, in 1944.

She remained employed there until 1959 in the export department managing the German, English and French business correspondence. Married to Erich A. Hecht in 1954, they emigrated to the United States in 1963.

Settling in the outskirts of Philadelphia, she took on the role of stay-at-home mother, raising the Hechts’ only child, Thomas. Ruth remained married to Erich until his passing in 1999.

Ruth was an outstanding cook and avid reader. She enjoyed traveling and returned to Germany many times. She also traveled the western U.S. and the southern states.

Ruth was a beloved mother and grandmother who happily shared her home and time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her son Thomas, daughter-in-law Alice and two grandchildren, Peter and Trevor Hecht, residents of Woodbury.

Graveside services are at 1 p.m. Friday July 12, at New North Cemetery in Woodbury.
