OXFORD — Charles E. “Charlie” Lewis, 85, entered into eternal rest on September 26, 2021, after a brief illness with loved ones by his side.

Charlie was born on January 6, 1936, in Seymour, to the late Mary Zennis and Charles Boston Lewis. In 1953, he married Joanne Gabinelli of Ansonia. It was there they made their home and raised a family. He worked for 38 years, 1956-1994, at Sikorsky Aircraft in the Engineering Fatigue Lab.

In 1976, he and Joanne built their home in Oxford. After Joanne’s death in 1991, he was fortunate to meet Marie Jannetty of Wolcott. They were married, Charlie retired and they began an active life of traveling until her death in 2016.

Charlie lived life his own way. He loved his family, traveling, animals, eating out, a good glass of wine and Donald Trump.

He was predeceased by his wife, Joanne; wife, Marie, and beloved son, Chuck.

He is survived by his sister, Evelyn (Nick) Amico of Ansonia; daughter, Carol; five stepchildren, 13 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, seven nephews, one niece and dear friends Gus, Maria and Ray.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Wednesday, September 29, at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Oxford. Burial took place at Brookside Cemetery in Oxford.
