OXFORD — Anne Sloan Schmelzle lived to be almost 97 years old. She passed away on Sunday, June 6, 2021. Anne was a resident of Oxford.

She was born on July 25, 1924, in Philadelphia, Pa., to Thomas and Anna Sloan. She was the youngest of seven children. She and her older sister were the only two who were not born in Ireland.

Anne married Carl Schmelzle on May 14, 1949. They had two daughters, Karan Schmelzle and Paula Arascunaga (Joe); a grandson, Jay Arascunaga (Bekki), and a great-grandson, Hugo Arascunaga. She had a dog, Sandy.

She was an active volunteer at both the Norwalk Hospital and the Griffin Hospital doing variety of different tasks for many years. Anne was very involved in her church.

A Memorial Service will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 26, at the Oxford United Church of Christ Congregational, 3 Academy Rd.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Oxford Congregational Church, Griffin Hospital volunteers or the Quinnipiac Medical Center Gift Program.
