KENT — The Kent Memorial Library is looking for a classic or otherwise appropriate car for its annual raffle.
The car raffle is one of the library’s primary fundraisers to help supplement the town grant, which only provides 30 percent.
Anyone interested in donating a vehicle to the library will be able to earn a tax advantage while helping sustain the library.
The annual car raffle began in 2002, when Billy and Mary Gawel made their restored 1932 Chevy five window coupe available to help raise funds for the library.
The Car Guys, a committee of the library, was formed and Rudy Molho, Michaela Lawrence, Allan Priaulx, Julie Saxton and Jim Blackketter, with the recent addition of Jim Norton, came together to carry the project forward as a library fundraiser.
Since then, with the help of many dedicated volunteers, the library has purchased 14 cars to offer in the raffle, with all proceeds net of the cost of the car going directly into the operating budget.
Those interested in helping are asked to call Mr. Blackketter at 860-927-1888.
