WOODBURY ­— The Woodbury Senior Center has received guidance from the state of Connecticut that they may begin to move toward reopening the Senior Community Center building.

Beginning in September the center invites members to gather outside at the center.

Members must wear a mask and observe social distancing requirements. Bring a lawn chair to enjoy the scenery and the company.

Virtual programming will continue and all social and senior services will still be accessible from outside the building when the center opens.

The Woodbury Ukulele Band will meet outdoors at the Senior Center at 6:30 p.m. Friday, September 18.

Members are invited to bring their ukeleles, a music stand (if you have one) and a chair. Masks will be required when moving from cars to the playing area. Fair weather only. Call the center for updates as needed. There will be a designated parking spot.

The center will host a See Ya Summer Car Hop and Lunch and Show from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Monday, September 21.

Members will attend from inside their cars in the senior center parking lot. A lunch in a bag, consisting of two hot dogs and condiments, chips, cookies and a water will be delivered by a car hop. Entertainment will be the live music of Woodbury’s Pierce Campbell.

The cost for the event is $2 per person, limited to 30 cars. Reservations are required with a head count per car.

Sharing Space in Out Outdoor Place is scheduled from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesdays, September 22 and 29 on the patio. Bring a chair. Temperatures will be taken by staff with a no-touch thermometer. Masks must be worn, so no food or drink will be allowed. Limited to 10 people. Sign ups are requested.

A Flu Shot Clinic will be offered at the Woodbury Senior Center on Friday, October 16, by appointment only. Sponsored by the Pomperaug District Department of Health.

To make an appointment, call the Health Department at 203-264-9616, Ext 0, beginning August 31. Do not call the Senior Center for an appointment.

Woodbury Drug is offering flu shot house calls this fall. Owner and pharmacist Jane Gergasky will meet patients wherever they are comfortable and administer a flu shot with no need for entering a store or other public building.

The Center has free masks available for seniors and those who care for them. Call the center or stop by to pick up your a set of five free masks. If dropping by, ring the doorbell located on the front door to be met outside.
