SOUTHBURY — The Southbury Senior Center is currently closed to the public.

The senior services team is working closely with the Emergency Management Director Steve Schnell to reopen the center at a safe time.

The doors remain locked, but programming, outreach and in person opportunities continue.

Zoom exercise classes resumed on January 4.

The Zoom exercise schedule is as follows: Mondays, 9:30 a.m. Aerobics with Laura; Tuesdays, 10 a.m. Fit and Flex with Maryann; 11:30 a.m. Chair Yoga with Pam; Thursdays, 8:45 a.m. Yoga with Pam.

The Page Turner’s book club will return on Wednesday, January 13. 

The January Pick-Up Parade is scheduled for Thursday, January 14 from 1 to 2 p.m., weather permitting.

Participants are asked to drive to the back of the senior center and remain masked in their car.

They may then pull up in their cars and open the passenger side window in the back seat, where the activities and treats will be placed.

An activity/raffle, The Tree of Hope, is planned for January. To participate, the center will give each member a plain glass ornament and a few items decorate it with plus whatever else members may like to use. 

The theme for the ornament is My Hope for 2021. The completed ornament is due back at the center by noon, Friday, January 29.

The ornaments will be put on display at the center on a Tree of Hope with photos of each participant with their ornament. Each participant who returns a decorated ornament will receive a raffle ticket to win one of three prizes.

The drawing will be held on Monday, February 1, winners will be called to pick up their prize.

An  RSVP is requested by calling the center participate, by noon, Friday, January 8.

Cooking with Nick from Brass City Harvest is now a once a week class. Projected time and days are 10 a.m. Thursdays, but that may change.

Members will be sent a Zoom invitation by email.

Ask the Financial Advisor will take place at 10 through 11 a.m. the second Wednesday of the month.

Martin Engstler, CFA with Edward Jones in Southbury will take questions on finances in a one-time, one on one, 15 minute Zoom consultation. Those interested may Kathy at Senior2@southbury-ct.gov to make an appointment.

The appointment times for January 13 are 10, 10:15, 10:30 and 10:45 a.m.

The Doctor is In with Dr. Marici takes place at 7 p.m. on the first Monday of each month until April 5, 2021.

There are 3 openings left: February 1, March 1 and April 5.

The Senior Learning Network for January 21 is The Art and Architecture of Hearst Castle.

There is no charge to our members, email and access to the internet is needed to participate.
