ROXBURY — The Orzech Family Preserve will be closed for parking lot repair and new bridge preparation until mid-October, according to the Roxbury Land Trust.
Trails opposite the Shepaug River at the River Road Preserve remain open and available, as well as at the trust’s other preserves in town. A full list of preserves and trail maps is at www.roxburylandtrust.org/preserves. RLT’s website and social media will be updated as work progresses.
The Roxbury Land Trust is in the process of updating Volunteers Bridge that connects the Orzech, Erbacher and Golden Harvest Preserves to the River Road Preserve.
The current plan calls for installing an adaptively re-used industrial pipe bridge retrofitted as a pedestrian walkway.
Planking is being created by a crew of volunteers using trees fallen during Storm Isiais in 2020.
Of the total $78,500 cost of the project, $22,000 remains to be raised. Donations to the Volunteers Bridge Project may be made at www.roxburylandtrust.org/donate. Those donating are asked to note that the donation is for the bridge project.
