Bethel: Fairy Tale Theater Begins in July

Richter’s Fairy Tale Theater program, a play series by children and for children, will open its season with a production of “The Three Pigs and The Three Billy Goats Gruff,” Saturday morning, July 6, on the grounds of Workspace Education in Bethel. Newtown resident Michael Elston and Jacquelyn and Rachelle Matchen of Bethel are among the company members.

BETHEL — Musicals at Richter begins its 21st season of Fairy Tale Theater, a play series by and for young people, on Saturday, July 6, at Workspace Education. This season’s Saturday morning shows include “The Three Pigs and The Three Billy Goats Gruff” on July 6, “The Frog Princess” on July 13, “Aesop’s Fables” on July 20 and “Pinocchio” on July 27.

Performed by an ensemble of young area actors under the direction of veteran children’s theater director and performer Missy Slaymaker-Hanlon of Ridgefield Theater Barn, these hour-long, interactive adaptations of classic tales include plenty of audience participation, a show-related craft activity, birthday recognitions and a visit with Mother Goose. 

The 2019 Fairy Tale Theater student company includes Jacquelyn Matchen, Rachelle Matchen and Sammy Lopata of Bethel; Kayleigh Dickinson, Chloe Djilani, Ella Djilani and Madison Molinaro of Danbury; Shane Dwy of New Fairfield; Michael Elston of Newtown; Taylor Hunt and Carly Stern of Ridgefield and Elias Osborn of Sherman.

Grounds at Workspace Education, located at 16 Trowbridge Drive in Bethel, open at 10:30 a.m. for the craft activity, with the show at 11 a.m. Families may bring blankets or chairs for seating on the lawn along with sunscreen; the performance will move indoors in the case of inclement weather.

Tickets are $5 each and can be purchased at the door. A small snack and drink concession is available.
