WATERTOWN — William Raveis Real Estate Mortgage and Insurance’s Southbury office worked with the students and staff at St. John The Evangelist School of Watertown to raise more than $300 and collect more than 60 pairs of sneakers to be recycled to raise money for cancer research.

The fundraiser efforts were spearheaded by Realtors Josephine DiSantis and Kerry Dimitratos, Administrative Manager Lisa Keeping, Marketing Coordinator Deb Jaffe and Vice President of Strategic Growth and Business Development Joy Luongo.

St. John the Evangelist Student council members organized the collection of used sneakers. The athletic shoes will be recycled to create new surfaces for playgrounds and tracks or recirculated to people who want quality reusable footwear at affordable prices.

One hundred percent of the proceeds from the event benefit Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation, which funds the most promising scientists conducting innovative cancer research; and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, which is committed to providing adults and children with cancer the best treatment available, while developing tomorrow’s cures through cutting-edge research.

The William Raveis Charitable Fund has raised nearly $3.5 million for Damon Runyon over their six year collaboration. WRCF has funded 20 scientists who are researching seven different types of cancer at 10 different institutions in Connecticut, Massachusetts and New York.

William Raveis Southbury will continue to take monetary donations and collect sneakers (any condition rubber bottomed athletic shoes) at the Southbury William Raveis located at 141 Main St. North, Southbury as well as other locations throughout the state.
