NEWTOWN — The Newtown Senior Center, 8 Simpson St., will begin programming soon.

Members will be able to reserve a one-hour spot on the patio for a group of 10 crafters, knitters, book club members, women’s discussion group or just to socialize.

Reservations for up to four seniors for one hour will be available once the new corn hole set is delivered.

Seniors can volunteer to make the Newtown Senior Center’s new herb garden successful fruitful by participating with the garden club.

More outdoor classes will be scheduled soon, weather permitting.

Registration will be required as class sizes are limited to only 10 people.

The center’s meal provider, CW Resources, will provide prepackaged lunches for seniors in containers that can be heated in home microwaves.

Meals will be available, with new hours, from 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays for curbside pick-up.

Monday and Tuesday Meals will be given Monday; Wednesday and Thursday meals will be given Wednesday.

Those who would like to receive a meal are asked to contact the Senior Center with three days’ notice by calling 203-270-4310.

Anyone who does not have transportation should alert staff when calling.

Meals are provided for a suggested donation of $3 and menus may change due to availability.

Those not registered for the congregate meal program at the center can complete the registration form required by CW and prove the form when picking up meals.

In-person programs have been suspended but the 2020 Great Hollow Juried Painting and Photography Show will be a virtual show, available at here until June 30th.

The show features 104 pieces of art by 40 different artists.

Face coverings are available at the senior center and residents may call 203-270-4310 to schedule a pickup time.

The senior center is collecting pictures of residents who are sharing positive messages on hand-written signs, offering a special shout out to men and women celebrating a birthday this month.

The AARP Foundation Tax-Aide services are currently suspended and the federal government has extended the tax deadline to July 15.

The senior center is looking for volunteers who are able to sew face coverings and will provide fabric.
