Views of New York City Streets Focus of Artist’s Exhibit

“7th Avenue,” an oil on linen by Merrill French, is among the works on view in a new exhibit at The MATT @ Rose Hill in Waterbury.

WATERBURY — Merrill French: Series 7s is on view through September 6 at The MATT @ Rose Hill, 63 Prospect St. This museum exhibition features the masterful depictions of urban landscapes created by 2020 MIXMASTER winner, Connecticut artist Merrill French. Her views of New York City streets are inspired by scientific observation transposed into realistic and precise, light-filled renderings.

Those planning to visit may reserve a timed entry at mattmuseum.org.

A Family Day is planned for 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, August 22.

A range of self-guided gallery activities will lead families through Merrill French’s exhibit, prompting them to take a closer look at her use of light, atmosphere and line.

After finding inspiration from the exhibit, participants may head outside and try their hand at creating their own landscape work of art.

A closing reception with artist gallery talk is set for 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, September 6, with remarks at 2 p.m.

Those attending will have the opportunity to view the artwork in timed entrances, meet the artist and celebrate the exhibition.

Light refreshments will be served in the Rose Hill garden.
