In Newtown: SCAN to Host Pastel Demonstration

The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown will host a demonstration by pastel artist Karen Israel at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 13, in the Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main St. She will paint an animal in pastel over a watercolor underpainting and the public is invited to attend.

NEWTOWN — The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown will host a demonstration by pastel artist Karen Israel at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 13, in the Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main St.

Ms. Israel will paint an animal in pastel over a watercolor underpainting. The public is invited to attend.

Admission is free.

Ms. Israel’s work has won many awards, most recently the Gold Medal of Honor with the Audubon Artist Association, Best in Show with the Pastel Society of the West Coast and Second Place with the Pastel Society of Maine.

She was named master pastelist by the Pastel Society of America and the International Association of Pastel Societies and is a Signature Member and past president of the Connecticut Pastel Society and Signature Member of the Pastel Society of the West Coast.

Ms. Israel is an elected member of the Salmagundi Club, the American Artists Professional League, the Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club and the Lyme Art Association.

Her work was featured in the French art magazine Practique Des Artes in July 2018 and in the Pastel Journal in April 2018.

In April 2020 a large body of Ms. Israel’s work will be featured in France at Pastels of the World in Bourbonnais.
