WATERTOWN - The Watertown-Pomperaug co-op ice hockey team closed out the 2021 portion of their schedule with a holiday week game at Cheshire on December 28, one day earlier than planned, as their scheduled game against Westhill-Stamford on December 29 at the Mays Rink was postponed.
If all goes well, W-P was scheduled to begin 2022 against Farmington Valley at the Avon Old Farms Jennings Rink on January 5.
For the second straight game, the W-P offense could muster up only one goal as the locals dropped 5-1 decision to previously-winless Cheshire High School at the Astorino Rink in Hamden on December 28.
It was a rare game in which W-P wore it’s home white uniforms as the Rams held what their twitter account called a “Black Out Game” in which they wore their all-black uniforms.
It wasn’t for lack of trying that the locals scored only once as they ran into a hot goalie in Rams senior Amaan Chaudhry who kept the W-P offense at bay, making great saves, including a trio during one third period sequence.
In all, W-P kept the heat on, outshooting Cheshire, 39-28, but only freshman defenseman AJ Delcarmine was able to beat him.
Leading Cheshire with two goals was forward Colin Veivia, enabling the Rams to win the contest between the SCC-SWC Division II rivals.
