WATERTOWN - In what has been a crazy season making sure of properly following safety precautions so they can play a game they love, the GROWS Watertown Rapids Softball 18U White team have been working hard every weekend and their efforts paid of on the weekend of July 25-26.
The Rapids played four games in East Hartford at the Elite Final Showdown and came away winning three of them after an opening game loss.
Beginning play on July 25 against NWS Elite, the Rapids struggled to get the bats going in a 7-0 loss.
Things turned around in their second game when the locals took on the CT Stealth. The Rapids’ bats got going quickly and they jumped out to an early lead.
Makayla Lindsey pitched well and her defense held Stealth in check in a 6-2 Rapids win.
Building off the late-day momentum, the Rapids came out for their first game on July 26 against an always-tough CT Mirage team.
The Rapids built a 4-0 lead while the defense held the leadby playing cleanly in the field.
A late attempted come back charge by the Mirage in their final at-bat fell short as the Rapids hung on behind the one-hit pitching of Shawna Tucker for a 4-2 victory.
In the final game of the weekend, Lindsey pitched against Smithfield Storm, dominating their lineup in pitching another one-hit masterpiece.
The Rapid offense scored in each inning and cruised to a satisfying 9-0 win.
