WATERTOWN - On a hotter streak than the sun, the GROWS Rapids 18U Blue softball team continued it’s sizzling pace, posting a second consecutive unbeaten week while outscoring opponents, 45-6 to improve to 21-3-4.

“”We had another big weekend with the bats,” said coach Chris Martin. “The girls are simply on fire at the plate, hitting .379, which is amazing.”

GAME ONE

The Rapids began their 5-0-1 weekend the best possible way, with pitchers Payton Doiron and Paige Fekete combining on a no-hitter while the offense banged out 15 hits in a 15-0 win over the Middlesex Bears on July 24.

Doiron pitched two perfect inings, striking out thre; Fekete followed with two more hitless frames, striking out four while walking two.

Alyssa Roberts led the Rapids with three hits; Makenzie Jones, Kendall Allen, Dana Cisowski, and Cassidy Doiron (who also drove in three runs) added two hits apiece.

Roberts and Briana Catalini drove in two runs apiece for the Rapids, who struck out only once in 27 official at-bats.

GAME TWO

With the score tied at 3-all in the top of the seventh inning of their July 24 game against the Crossfire, Allen took matters into her hands, blastng a solo home run to give tha Rapids a 4-3 win.

Previous runs driven in by Allen, Roberts and May Dawes sert the stage for the clutch moment; Allen and Roberts had two hits apiece as five of the nine Rapid hits went for extra bases.

Roberts started in the pitching circle and went 3.1 innings; Payton Doiron went 2.2 innings to finish and get the win.

GAME THREE

In the first of two games on July 25, the Rapids notched their second shutout of the weekend, shutting down the Storm Academy team, 4-0.

Roberts started and went four innings to get the win with one inning of relief help from Payton Doiron; the duo yielded four hits while striking out six.

Cisowski and Cassidy Doiron had two hits for the Rapids, with Cisowski driving in two runs.

GAME FOUR

The Rapids completed a day in which they held both of their opponents scoreless by wiping out the Connecticut Diamond Club 18U team, 8-0.

A five-run first inning and the one-hit pitching effort of Payton Doiron were the winning ingredients mixed together Martin’s team, which enjoyed a nine-hit outburst.

Doiron was again the newsmaker in the pitching circle, striking out 10 and walking only two in her five-inning stretch.

Dawes and Olivia Lombardi had two hits apiece for the Rapids, who hammered out four extra base hits; Allen and Roberts had two RBIs apiece.

GAME FIVE

Matching runs in the fourth inning left the Rapids in a 1-1 tie with the Lady Clippers in a game on July 26.

The Clippers outhit the Rapids, 3-2, with Allen driving in the only run; Payton Doiron had the other hit while also pitching five solid innings, allowing three hits while striking out 10.

GAME SIX

In their final game and sixth in three days, the Rapid bats re-awoke, ripping out 14 hits in a 13-2 win over Ridgefield.

Allen went 2-for-3 at the plate, scoring twice and driving in four runs; Roberts homered for one of her three hits, scoring twice.

Harley Jasmin, Payton Doiron and Autumn Mitchell drove in two runs apiece; Roberts went three innings and Loren Mossey two as the locals completed another set of solid hitting and pitching performances.

BY THE NUMBERS: Through 28 games, Dana Ciskowski led the team with a .446 batting average...Cisowski and Dawes are co-leaders in hits with 29...Cassidy Doiron (.525) has been on-base machine for the team, which has an overall OBP of .430...The team has driven in 166 runs with Allen’s 24 and Roberts’ 18 leading...Dawes has also crossed the plate a team-high 32 times...In the pitching categories, Roberts is 9-0 with a 3.05 ERA while Payton Doiron is 10-1 with a 1.52 ERA...Doiron has also struck out 93 in 64.1 innings.
