Dauti: Five Goals - Warriors Overpower Naugy, Seymour

DAUNTING DAUTI - Whether battling an opponent for possession of the ball or with it  on her foot, Besiana Dauti has emerged as a major presence for the Watertown High School girls’ soccer team. In victories over NVL rivals Seymour and Naugatuck, the sophomore scored five goals and added one assist.  (Dreher photo)

WESTON - In a non-league girls’ soccer match on September 17, Weston High School defeated Watertown High School, 1-0. The loss, while not hurting the Warriors in the NVL scheme of things, did leave them with an overall record of 2-2-0. The score might have been a bit more in favor of Weston had it not been for the play of Watertown’s junior goalkeeper Isabella Beauty, who made 18 saves.

As anyone who knows past performance well, a .500 record in September means very little when it comes to grading the team under coach Melissa Ciarlo, whose teams put on a charge as the days grow shorter, the matches more important and tournament time nears.

After their 5-2 opening match loss at Woodland, the Warriors made their Mills Complex debut with a sharp 3-1 victory over Seymour High School on September 14, then followed up with a 6-1 scorching of arch-rival Naugatuck High School on September 16, with a newcomer making her mark.

Freshman Genesis Dobkowski announced her varsity arrival, and with a loud-and-clear statement, scoring three goals while sophomore Besiana Dauti added two goals and Mallory Hannon one in the romp.

Sarah Krayeske (2), Sammie Misiolek, Besiana Dauti, and Meghan Hughes were credited with assists.

In the win over the Wildcats, Dauti carried the offense by scoring three times, with assists going to Dani Perugini and and Adriana Melaragno, while Beauty and Sophia Simoes combined to make six saves in goal for the Warriors.
