WATERTOWN - After going 2-0-2 in their first series of game since returning to play, the GROWS Rapids 18U softball team, scoring runs in bunches, picked up the pace in their second week of action, going 3-0 in games on June 27 to improve to 5-0-2.
The Rapids rallied from a 5-1 deficit, roaring back with a seven-run fourth inning to score an 8-5 win over the Eliminators on a two-run double by Autumn Mitchell.
Five of the Rapids’ eight hits went for extra bases, as Harley Jackson homered and drove in three runs, while Mitchell, Makenzie Jones, Dana Cisowski and May Dawes each contributed doubles.
Payton Doiron was in the pitches’ circle, picking up the win by striking out seven while allowing only four earned runs.

Trailing the Dutchess Divas 5-2 in the third inning, the Rapids again unleashed a fearsome offensive attack, scoring seven times in the third and five more in the fourth inning to coast to a 14-6 win.
The Rapids pounded out 15 hits, led by Jones, Alyssa Roberts, Cisowski, Doiron, and Rachael Ushka with two apiece.
Walking only twice, the Rapids relentlessly put their bats on the ball, as Dawes, Roberts, Jasmin, Cisowski and Loren Mossey drove in two runs apiece.
Mossey, who started and pitched four innings, and Roberts who hurled the final frame, held the Divas to four hits.

By now, it had beome habit.
After falling behind early, the Rapids took matters (and bats) into their own hands, stunning the CT Seahawks 18U Gold with a nine-run explosion in the fourth inning, turning an 8-5 deficit into a 14-8 victory.
Dawes’ two-run double capped the comeback, snapping an 8-8 tie and making a winning pitcher out of Roberts, who was backed up by an 11-hit (nine for extra bases) lineup.
Leading the charge were Ushka (triple and home run), Dawes and Cisowski with two hits apiece; Ushka also drove in three runs.

The Rapids 16U team played six games over the June 26-28 weekend, going 3-2-1.
On June 26, the Rapids defeated the CT Wreckers, 7-1, and lost to the Wildcats, 4-2.
On June 27 the Rapids and Saratoga Thunder played to a 3-3 tie and the NWS Elite defeated them, 6-0.
On June 28, GROWS notched and 11-3 win over the Mirage and closed out the weekend with a 7-5 win over the Titans.
