To the Editor:

The Oakville Watertown Democratic Town Committee has voted unanimously that the seniors of our town need to be considered by the Town Council by implementing a tax freeze program.

Former Town Councilman Carl Mancini has advocated for a tax freeze program for senior citizens. Our town committee believes, now more than ever, that the Town Council needs to stand up for our senior citizens by freezing their taxes. The program that we have now is insufficient.

Town committee member Jeff Desmarais said, “Many seniors who have lived in town and have contributed to our tax base for years are now on fixed incomes. The Town Council needs to outline and implement a plan that will allow seniors to keep their homes.”

The Oakville Watertown Democratic Town Committee proposes that a senior tax freeze program be employed by the Town Council during the current budget process.
