To the Editor:

Facts are overwhelmingly in favor of keeping the name Indians at WHS. Descendants from the Paugasuck Tribe came to Watertown on January 10th and told us that they want Watertown to keep the name Indians. That is a fact.

Those who want to change the name quoted studies that said students that attend schools that have Indians as mascots test below those who don’t. Fact, our students’ test scores proved that false.

One question for those who want to change the name: what, if anything, do any of you do for Native Americans? The bottom line is this, the only opinion that matters is that of the Paugasuck Indians. They have spoken and are in favor of Watertown High School keeping the name Indians. That is a fact.

Go Indians!
