To the Editor:

I have watched our town government become more and more complacent over the years.

Why doesn’t the Town Council discuss the issues they vote on in council meetings? Why won’t they allow a second public participation at the end of the meeting so the public can comment on the issues raised in council meetings?

Why do the council members listen with disinterested silence when a voter brings an issue to them?

Why do they refuse to answer voter questions, address concerns or assign voter questions to someone to research?

It appears that council members just want to show up, vote and go home.

It wasn’t always like this. The Republicans have been in power for 14 years. Their interest and concern about the voters has deteriorated over the years. Now they seem to care about insiders and cronies and maintaining power. And the rest of us are left out.

I recently checked out the Independent Party’s website at

I urge you to do the same and decide for yourself if you want to give the Republicans another chance or give the Town Council majority to someone else.

I will be voting for all the Independent Party candidates on November 2, and I urge you to do the same.
