To the Editor:
On Friday, August 23, the Town Clerk’s office hosted its 9th annual Watertown Coolest Canine Photo Contest and Bow Wow Olympics at Veterans’ Park.
The weather was spectacular and all dogs and their owners in attendance very much enjoyed the events. Channel 3 weatherman Scot Haney stopped by to judge the photo contest, trivia contest and Olympic events.
He stayed to greet fans and take photos with pets and their owners. Scot studied the entries very carefully and selected Smuckers, a 2-year-old Goldendoodle, as the 2019 Coolest Canine. Prizes donated from local businesses were awarded to the winners.
Dog owners were sent a flyer with their dog license reminder in June asking them to consider donating a pet food item for the Watertown Food Bank. Items and donations were collected at the Town Clerk’s office. We were thrilled at the response.
Because of everyone’s charitable donations we were able to turn over to the Watertown Food Bank several boxes full of dog and cat food. Natural Pet Oasis offered $10 nail clipping and donated all of the proceeds to the future Watertown Dog Park fund.
I would like to thank everyone that participated in the event, came out to watch, and to those who contributed to our pet food drive and dog park.
I would also like to thank Lisa Carew, Gary and the Park & Rec crew for all their outstanding help setting up and breaking down, and to Nancy, Sherry, Katie and the following businesses for helping make this event such a huge success – Bravo. You are awesome.
We really appreciate your generous donations and time: Carvel, Litchfield Bancorp, Natural Pet Oasis, Thomaston Feed, Watertown Animal Hospital and Stone Veterinary Hospital.
