PATRIOT’S PEN WINNER

Sacred Heart Middle School seventh grade student Kiara Byrnes of Waterbury won second place in the 2019-2020 Wheeler-Young VFW Post 201 Patriot’s Pen writing competition. The essay topic was What Makes America Great. The city-wide contest gives students an opportunity to write essays expressing their views on an annual patriotic theme. Presenting Kiara with her $400 award were (from left), VFW Post 201 Service Officer Al Comeau, Patriot’s Pen Competition co-chair Whitey Zyko, Post 201 Commander Patrick Freis and Auxiliary President Betty Freis.
