WATERTOWN — The Town Council, meeting in a special session on Thursday, May 27, officially set the mil rate at 34.56 mils and scheduled one public hearing, for a new ordinance, and one town meeting, for payment of unanticipated overages in the education department.
The mil rate was established following the approval of the proposed budget during a referendum on Tuesday, May 18.
The Public Hearing on the proposed new ordinance was set for 6:15 p.m. Mon, June 7, at Watertown Town Hall.
Currently, statutes limit the number of candidates any party can nominate and the number that any person may vote for to fill positions on the Board of Education and the Town Council.
The new ordinance is labeled, “An ordinance providing for unrestricted voting for vacancies on Board of Education and Town Council.”
The special town meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 9, at Watertown High School, to consider an appropriation in the amount of $2,834,608 to the Board of Education Fiscal Year 2020-21 budget for unanticipated overages in special education costs and Covid-19 related expenses.
