Phyllis Monterose

OAKVILLE — Phyllis Monterose, age 97, of Oakville, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, March 17, 2020, surrounded by the love and comfort of her family after an extended illness. She was the widow of Charles Monterose.

Phyllis was born October 31, 1922 in Orland, Maine, the daughter of the late Oscar and Amelia (Skillings) Ware. She was educated in Maine where she grew up and was a loving and dedicated homemaker. She moved to Connecticut and married Charles Monterose in 1945 and supported him in his business, Monterose Welding and Ironworks, for many years.

She enjoyed sewing and knitting and was a member of the St. Mary Magdalen Ladies Guild, the Holy Cross Mothers Club and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

What was most important to Phyllis was her family. She will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know and love her.

Left to cherish her memory and honor her love and legacy are her children, Sandra Ann Monterose, with whom she made her home, and Thomas J. Monterose, Sr., and his wife, Lorri, of Mooresville, N.C. Phyllis was blessed with six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her sisters, Eleanor Derouin of Oakville and Margaret Hooper of Maine.

Because of governmental restrictions regarding the current pandemic, a private funeral service for the Monterose family took place at the O’Neill Funeral Home, 742 Main St., Oakville, at 11:30 a.m. Monday, March 23. A live stream of the services is available on the funeral home’s Facebook page at Burial  followed in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Watertown.

Memories endure only when shared, so friends are encouraged to leave a condolence, words of comfort or a personal memory with the Monterose family on Phyllis’s tribute page at
