MIDDLEBURY — Joseph S. Kalita passed away Thursday, November 14, 2019 at Waterbury Hospital after a brief illness.
Joseph was born April 20, 1937 and was raised in Waterbury, and later became a resident of Middlebury. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marjory Kalita; his son, Joseph Kalita, Jr., and his sister, Helen Wilkowsky, as well as nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother, Edward, and sister, Alice Zukauskas.
Joseph came to a knowledge of God’s Word, learning that “All Scripture is Inspired of God.” He also learned about the wonderful hope of the resurrection. He was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on March 22, 1980. He was an elder in the Waterbury West Congregation for many years.
He worked with his brother Ed for many years at the Kalita Agency in Watertown, and later ran his own tax preparation business.
He was an avid outdoorsman with a love of fishing, hiking and all things pertaining to nature. He would share his knowledge with everyone at any opportunity. Those who knew him learned so much from him.
He was dearly loved by everyone; kind, gentle and loving to all. He will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Calling hours will be from 1 to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, November 23, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 2670 North Main St., Waterbury. A memorial service will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the same location.
