John “Jay” L. Gurtowski, III

MERIDEN — John “Jay” L. Gurtowski, III, 50, of Meriden, formerly of Watertown, died Thursday, September 24, 2020.

Jay was born May 21, 1970, in Meriden, son of Jill M. (Erdos) (Gurtowski) Zilvitis of Meriden and John L. Gurtowski, Jr., of South Carolina. He lived in Watertown for most of his life before moving back to Meriden a year ago.

He worked as a chef in local restaurants and then as a driller/field technician for a local soil testing firm. He enjoyed sports, especially watching football, and was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Besides his parents, Jay is survived by his son, John-Cameron Gurtowski of Meriden; his two brothers, Paul J. Gurtowski, Sr., of Goshen and Christopher J. Gurtowski of Meriden; his aunt, Diane Barbera of Meriden; his uncle, Paul Erdos of Meriden; his niece, Ashlee Gurtowski of Watertown; his nephew, Paul Gurtowski, Jr., of Manchester; his great-niece, Aliyah Ramos of Watertown, and several great aunts, including Edith Drapeau of Meriden.

Calling hours will from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, October 8, at the Hickcox Funeral Home, 195 Main St., Watertown.
