Donna M. Williams

THOMASTON — Donna M. Williams, 68, passed away on Tuesday, September 14, 2021, surrounded by her family.

She was the loving wife of her pre-deceased husband, Keith Williams, to whom she was married for 43 years.

Donna devoted her life to the care of others as an R.N. of 40 years at Waterbury Hospital, a parish nurse at St Peter’s Trinity Episcopal Church in Thomaston and as a devoted mother and grandmother. She was passionate about her service to her community through the church and local food banks.

Donna was born on July 26, 1953, in Waterbury. She was raised in Naugatuck by Loretta Loyer and the late Ronald Loyer.

She retired from Waterbury Hospital’s One Day Surgery Department.

There she also worked in IV therapy and was respected for her expertise in that specialty. Donna mentored many nurses over her career and formed incredible, lasting friendships that continued throughout her life.

Donna’s exuberance for life was infectious, as was her smile. She lit up a room with her excitement and appreciation for every moment; nothing was ever taken for granted.

She was lovingly deemed the president of the Sunshine Club, because she was always first to celebrate one’s joys or offer comfort in times of sorrow. Her empathy for others was a driving force in her life and was felt by all of those around her.

She had many passions in her life, including photography, yoga, travel and spending time outdoors. Her love of yoga lead her to become a certified yoga instructor. Donna loved to explore spirituality with her husband and family and enjoyed reading to further expand her views.

“Nana” grew up enjoying summers at her grandmother’s house on Bantam Lake and was so proud to do the same for her grandchildren. Her family spent countless summer days enjoying campfires and canoe rides.

She was never happier than when her whole family would gather together to share these moments.

Donna leaves her son, Mike Williams and his wife, Maura Williams, of Watertown; a daughter, Michelle Sullivan and her husband, Tim Sullivan, of Thomaston; her granddaughters, Lorea, Emily, Ava and Julia; several nieces and nephews; her mother, Loretta Loyer of Naugatuck, and two brothers, John Loyer and his wife, Marion, of Watertown and Ronald Loyer and his wife, the late Virginia Loyer, of Naugatuck.

Services took place Saturday, September 18, at the Lyons Funeral Home, Thomaston. Burial will be private.
