ETOWAH, N.C. — Barbara Bigham, 87, of Etowah, N.C., died unexpectedly on June 18, 2019. She previously lived in Watertown.

She was the beloved wife of the late Carl E. Bigham. She was the daughter of the late Maryann and Erich Laue.

Barbara was a graduate of Boston University and became a compassionate and caring R.N. for many years. She previously worked at Yale-New Haven Hospital and Pardee Hospital in Hendersonville, N.C.

She was a very talented cook, weaver, baker, knitter, craftmaker and gardener.

She was a loving, caring older sister to Eva Kamlah of Mainz, Germany, and the late Peter Laue of Cape Cod, Mass.

Barbara was a dear and wonderful stepmother and mother-in-law to Maureen A. Hartnett (Rick) of Braintree, Mass., Peter Bigham of Whitman, Mass., Barbara Stokes (late Danny) of Gaffney, S.C., Lt. John Bigham (Joyce Recchia) of Terryville and the late Richard Bigham of Florida and William Bigham (Joan) of Hendersonville, N.C. She also leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are being handled by Moody-Connolly of Brevard, N.C. Barbara and Carl will be laid to rest at Pisgah Gardens in Brevard, N.C.
