OAKVILLE — Jake Grendzinski of Troop 140 St. Mary Magdalen Church was named an Eagle Scout at a ceremony on Sunday, July 18 with family and friends in attendence along with Troop 140.

The ceremony took place at the site of his Eagle Project, a Prayer Garden at St. Mary Magdalen School. The centerpiece is a 5 ft.  statue of the Virgin Mary surrounded by a cedar arbor. Two benches were built by the scouts for those visiting to pray and reflect.

More than 2 1/2 tons of crushed stone was donated by O&G Construction to give the the shrine a firm decorative base.

Many freshly placed plants and shrubs adorn the 100 ft. area from the front parking lot to the Prayer Garden. Lights were installed to give the entire garden a soft glow after sunset. Fr. Jim Gregory blessed the site prior to the ceremony.

Jake guided hundreds of volunteers who donated 300 man hours collectively of their time. Scout Leader Rich Browner served as Jake’s mentor and helped him navigate through the project from start to finish. Observers noted that Jake exhibited poise and patience completing his project on time with his great leadership skills.
