Connecticut Snow Plow Safety Roadeo: Watertown Snow Plow Driver Places Third

Marc DiVito shows off the third place trophy he won at the Connecticut Association of State Highway Official’s 31st annual Snow Plow Safety Roadeo.

WATERTOWN — The Public Works Department announced that one of Watertown Highway’s resident snow plow truck drivers was recognized as being among the best in the state at the Connecticut Association of State Highway Official’s 31st annual Snow Plow Safety Roadeo held on Thursday, October 10 at New Life Church in Wallingford. Marc DiVito took third place in the Pickup Truck Division. He competed against other snowplow drivers from numerous other municipalities located throughout the state, in the Connecticut Department of Transportation and the Regional Water Authority.

The contest, which simulates actual snowplow conditions, is designed to test a driver’s skill and knowledge in the safe and efficient removal of snow and operation of the vehicle.

Drivers are rated on a point system based upon a safety inspection of the vehicle, a written examination and the run through an obstacle course designed to represent some of the conditions that are encountered during plowing operations.

Every participating organization is allowed to send one representative to compete in each of the five classes, Jeep Mini-Pickup Truck, Pickup Truck, Mason Dump Truck, 6-Wheel Dump Truck and 10-Wheel Dump Truck.
