THOMASTON — The Thomaston Recreation Department will host and continue several programs in the upcoming month.

The Indoor Poison Ball program will be offered from 3 to 4 p.m. December 3, 4, 6 and 10 at the Thomaston Center School gymnasium, 1 Thomas Ave. 

There will be a snow date of Wednesday, December 11. 

The program is offered for grades four, five and six and hosted by Renee Wojtczak, physical education instructor. 

Space is limited to 25 children per class and the cost is $40 per student.

Registration and payment is required to reserve a spot.

A new eight week session of candlelit gentle yoga will be hosted from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. on Tuesdays beginning December 3 at Black Rock School, 57 Branch Rd. 

The cost is $50 per student and participants may attend classes for a nightly rate of $10.

This class is open to everyone and incorporates the foundations of yoga including the principles of proper alignment paired with breath awareness.

Participants will also learn benefits of yoga like improving strength and flexibility and how the techniques that are offered can help with stress and anxiety.

This class offers more sitting than standing poses.

Registration is held on the first night of class at the school with the instructor. 

A kids yoga program will be hosted from 3 to 4 p.m. December 4, 5, 11, 12, 18 and 19 at the Black Rock School gymnasium, 57 Branch Rd. 

The program is offered for grades kindergarten, one, two and three. 

Children can learn an introduction to yoga by flowing through basic poses using popular stories and picture books as their guide.

Creative props like the Monkey Mind Jar and the Belly Breath Bubble will be incorporated to help children understand the power they have to self-regulate their emotions.

On the last day of class, each child will get a henna tattoo as a souvenir of the program.

Space is limited to 15 children per class and the cost is $60 per student.

A new eight week session of vinyasa flow yoga will be hosted from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. on Wednesdays beginning December 4 at Black Rock School, 57 Branch Rd. 

The cost is $50 per student and participants may attend classes for a nightly rate of $10.

This class is welcome to everyone and offers poses that flow into each other and participants will find flows that move energy and work all the muscle groups.

Particpants will work their way up to standing postures for a majority of the class and meditation techniques will be offered at the end of each class.

Registration is held on the first night of class at the school with the instructor. 

Karate classes will continue to run its eight week session program on Thursday evenings at the Thomaston Center School, 1 Thomas Ave. 

Classes for ages five through eight will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. and classes for ages nine to adult will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. 

The classes will be taught by Ken Laliberte, a sixth degree black belt. 

The cost is $50 per student but the cost can vary if joining mid-session. 

Registration is held with the instructor at the school.

The senior gentle yoga class will continue at 1:30 p.m. on Mondays in the Lena Morton Art gallery in the town hall, 158 Main St. 

This class is welcome to everyone and encourages participants that would like to improve strength, flexibility, balance and accentuated mindfulness.

Classes are casual and participants are encouraged to participate at the level they are comfortable at.

Chairs are used with the option of floor work and the class is hosted by Wendy Larsen. 

The cost is $10 per class, the first class is free and walk-ins are welcome.
