For Oakville’s Wanda Tirado: Annual Christmas Dinner Fundraiser Scheduled

OAKVILLE — Wanda’s Annual Christmas Dinner and Dance-A-Thon, a fundraiser to honor Waterbury resident, single mom and teacher, Wanda Tirado, who lost her life tragically in June 2018, will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, December 14 at the St. Mary Magdalen School Gymnasium, 140 Buckingham St. Proceeds from this event will directly benefit the two school-aged children she left behind.

In addition, an annual scholarship in Ms. Tirado’s name will be given to a student at both St. Mary Magdalen School and Catholic Academy of Waterbury, the schools where her daughters attended and where she worked.

The evening will feature food served buffet style, beautiful raffle prizes, a DJ and dancing, giveaways and a special appearance by Santa Claus.

In the spirit of Ms. Tirado’s love to help others, attendees are encouraged to bring an unwrapped toy for a child of any age and/or a nonperishable food item.

Toys will be donated to Waterbury Police Activity League and food will be donated to St. Vincent DePaul of Waterbury.

Drop off locations are set up now for those who prefer to donate early and items can be brought to any of the following, St. Mary Magdalen School; Catholic Academy, 386 Robinwood Rd., Waterbury and Holy Cross High School, 587 Oronoke Rd., Waterbury.

Tickets for the fundraiser are $25 per adult, $10 per student and children under 5 are free.

Checks should be made payable to: Martinez Chalker-Tirado Edu Fund, and mailed to Webster Bank, 712 Main St., Watertown 06795.
