HARTFORD — The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention reports that in Connecticut suicide is the second leading cause of death among young people, ages 10 to 34, and the fourth leading cause of death for those ages 35 to 54.
In many cases, the individual, friends and families affected by thoughts of suicide are left in the dark, feeling a shame or stigma that prevents talking openly about issues dealing with suicide.
Connecticut 2-1-1 is certified by the American Association of Suicidology in crisis intervention. Emergency services are available through dialing 2-1-1 or 1-800-273-TALK (8255) or by calling 911.
