TORRINGTON — Hartford HealthCare has increased its visitor restrictions and will postpone surgeries and procedures that are not urgent or emergent due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Charlotte Hungerford Hospital has updated its visitor policy and is instituting a single entry point at its front circle main entrance for patients, visitors and vendors effective 6 a.m. Thursday, March 12 until further notice.

The new directive is being put in place in response to the recent coronavirus Covid-19,  to ensure the current and continued safety of hospital patients and staff.

Hartford HealthCare is rescheduling elective surgeries to protect its patients, staff and the community from the spread of coronavirus. These precautions are being taken in conjunction with recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, statewide healthcare organizations and Hartford HealthCare’s Covid-19 Task Force.

“At Hartford HealthCare, we are fully committed to both the community and our healthcare colleagues during the coronavirus outbreak,” said Jeff Flaks, president and chief executive officer of HHC.

This policy change only applies to the main hospital tower building and the Turner Coe Annex at 540 Litchfield St.

The CHH campus medical office building at 538 Litchfield St., and all other CHH offsite facilities and provider practices including the Center for Cancer Care are not affected at this time.

All visitors to the patient areas must enter through the main front hospital entrance at 540 Litchfield St.

If entering at any other entrance, visitors will be directed to go to the main entrance for screening. Patients and visitors may still enter the hospital’s emergency department.

The emergency department is open 24/7 to patients and visitors.

The main front entrance is open to all other visitors, patients and vendors. All individuals will be health screened and have their temperature taken.

The outpatient/blood draw entrance is closed to patients and visitors.

The Turner Coe Annex entrance is closed to patients and visitors.

All patients and visitors coming through the main entrance will be asked if they traveled internationally in the past 14 days, if they are experiencing any cold or respiratory issues or been exposed to anyone who has and if they have been on a cruise ship recently.

They will also have their temperature taken by medical professionals.

Visitors are asked not to visit the hospital if they are ill or have symptoms of a cold or the flu. People not visiting patients are asked not to come to the hospital.

Only one visitor per patient is allowed at a time.

The Charlotte Gift Shop and hospital cafeteria will not be available to the public who are not visiting patients until further notice.

New visiting hours are noon to 8 p.m. daily. For patients using same day services, the hours will be normal business hours from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Parking is available in the hospital’s main circle and the adjacent lot. A valet service is also available.

All CHH cardiac rehabilitation and pulmonary rehabilitation appointments in Torrington and Winsted are cancelled until further notice.
