OAKVILLE — The Falls Avenue Community Center and Senior Services offers monthly special programs in addition to its recurring weekly activities for area adults 55 years of age and older.
All events take place at the Falls Avenue Community Center and Senior Services at 311 Falls Ave.
Advance reservations are required for these programs. Those interested may call 860-945-5250 on or before the RSVP deadline.
IPhone and iPad tutoring will be available at 3 p.m. Monday, November 18 and 25.
A Watertown High School student will be at the center for one hour on each of those afternoons to show individuals how to use their iPhones and iPads.
Reservations will be accepted beginning November 1 and must be made by the day before each session.
There is a limit of four persons per class. Individuals may sign up for more than one session. However, persons who already attended one of the sessions may be asked to relinquish their additional reservations to accommodate others who have not previously attended a session.
Jennifer Labrie, resource coordinator at Hartford HealthCare Center for Healthy Aging, will present Keeping Your Memory Strong at 2 p.m. Friday, November 15.
Participants will learn about typical age-related changes that happen in the brain and strategies to keep brains healthy and minds sharp.
There will be activities as part of this program.
Reservations are required by Thursday, November 14.
This month’s Cooking with Corky class will meet at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 19. Chef Plourde’s classes help participants prepare affordable and nutritious recipes. Reservations are required by Monday, November 18.
Reiki sessions will begin at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 19.
Reiki is a nonintrusive method of hands-on healing that addresses imbalances in the energy flow in the body. It is not massage.
Participants are recommended to wear loose, comfortable clothing. The individual sessions are offered by Sally Sossei, a certified Reiki master and nurse. Reservations will be accepted beginning until Monday, November 18. The cost of the event is $15.
DeAnne Gauya will present Optimal Aging: Holistic Living Into Your 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and Beyond at 2 p.m. Friday, November 22.
This is an informative and interactive presentation and discussion that focuses on holistic living and aging while maintaining a high-quality life.
The key components are improving physical, mental, emotional and spiritual fitness as people age, learning how to turn back biological clocks, learning why age is really just a number and deciding to start improving holistic fitness by using the information shared during this program.
