February 22 in Woodbury: Four Acts to Appear in Songwriter’s Series

Open Book, featuring Rick and Michele Gedney, are among the acts scheduled to appear in the next installment of the New Morning Songwriter’s Series, Saturday evening, February 22 in the upstairs Community Room at New Morning Market in Woodbury.

WOODBURY — New Morning Songwriter’s Series will present an evening of the region’s finest songwriters featuring Open Book, Lisa Brigantino, Doug Anderson and Fred Gillen, Jr., at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, February 22, in the store’s upstairs community room, 129 Main St. North. The series focuses on singer-songwriters and includes both local and touring acts in an “in-the-round” format where the artists take turns performing their songs.

Rick and Michele Gedney, known as Open Book, have been writing, recording and performing together since 2000.

Their original music features melody invention and vocal harmonies backed by a tapestry of interweaving guitars.

Open Book has released three albums and is currently recording a fourth.

Lisa Brigantino from Brooklyn, N.Y., is an award-winning singer-songwriter and engaging performer whose eclectic approach to songwriting spans groove, genre and topic.

She has three CDs of original music to her credit and performs regularly at venues ranging from intimate house concerts to theaters.

Doug Anderson spent the last several years playing solo gigs in Texas before making his way north to Weston, where he is getting back to his New England roots.

Also known as “Ol’ Moose,” he began performing by playing blues harmonica and now accompanies his original songs on acoustic guitar.

Fred Gillen, Jr., has released 11 full-length albums to great critical acclaim and has performed all over the U.S. and Europe as a solo artist.

His lyrics often reflect both the hope and despair of the human condition and his performances are spontaneous and full of storytelling.

Doors will open at 7 p.m. and the show will start promptly at 7:30.

Desserts, refreshments and light fare will be available for purchase in New Morning Market until 8 p.m.

Those seeking additional information about the event may call 203-266-6688.
